In discussing USATF (United States of America Track and Field), they are the governing body of the sport of running – all running and field events. They have the records, the history, the events- locally and nationally. They offer events that are for non-members and members which have paid the annual dues, therefore making them (members) eligible for prize money in those said events. Member dues can pay for race insurance, programs that help Masters, Open and Youth development, appearance money and prize money at event and even officials and coaches being able to gain more knowledge about the sport.
If you are a member of a running club, it helps to be a USATF member, as it makes you eligible for winning (title and/or money), then bringing it back to your club, in some instances or be an official record holder. By being a member, it allows you to have a voice about your sport and voting rights. You can become as involved as much as you want.
I just see it as a way to help support and give back to the sport that I have loved so much and for so long. And on that note, may this information perhaps enlightened you, or at the very least entertained you and I look forward to a fun, enjoyable and (always) memorable season and year with RKR!
