Many Roadkill Racers have found glory and success at the Oak Tree Half Marathon over the years. Despite the challenging course (or maybe because of it), Oak Tree is always a competitive race, and we’ve had members win awards many times at the half marathon distance.
But the Oak Tree race also has a 5K, which was part of the USATF Niagara Grand Prix series this year. Once again, we fielded full teams in every age and gender category, as racers were apparently eager to show their mettle at a more typical race distance. Roadkill Racing wasn’t the only team chomping at the bit, though, and we faced some of our fiercest competition yet.
Still, we picked up points for every team, led by our fearless Masters Women, who came in second (9 points). The Open Women, Open Men, and Masters Men all finished third in their respective categories, gaining 5 points each.
Thus far in the series, the Open Women are tied for first with Checkers with 60 points. The Open men are in second with 42 points, with Checkers close behind at 40 points. Masters Men are barely holding onto second place with 38 points to GVH’s 37 points. Last but certainly not least, the Masters Women are also in second with 42 points; 5 points ahead of third-place GVH.
Roadkill Racing has had two phenomenal years in a row, and it looks like this could be our best yet. But these next few races are going to make or break us. Checkers, Bergen Elite, and GVH are no slouches, and we’ll have to bring our A-game to every last race if we want a chance to stay in the money (the top two teams in each category earn $1000 and $500, respectively. Third place gets shame and disgrace). Can we do it? Yes we can!
